This episode took place in 1992. I had an attack of typhoid. In spite of my twice taking the course for prevention of typhoid in future, I continued to have 99*c temperature. Day by day, my condition started deteriorating. I was regularly in touch with my doctors who were of the strong opinion that if this low fever persists, then chances of my developing T.B. were imminent. After every 15 days, I had to undergo T.B. test. Over a period of time, doctors had become pretty sure that I had T.B. This frightened me and I went to Shri Sant Lal Guruji of Sonepat. After narrating my problem to him, I could not help crying. I begged of him that I have a small child and who would look after him if something happened to me.

For a minute, he was in a contemplative mood and then he sanctified a jute thread and asked me to wear it around my neck. He instructed me that I should keep that thread wet and do not let it dry. “Your fever will go soon and you will never ever have T.B.”, he said. After about a week, my temperature became normal, but on the insistence of my doctor, I kept undergoing the T.B. test for next six months. Every time the report would come normal and finally the doctors gave me a clean chit. I started leading a normal life and, over a period of time, I had almost forgotten this problem.

After about 18 years, I was to undergo nose surgery. As per the normal practice, before going to the Operation Table, I was asked to get all the tests carried out. When the blood test report came, the doctor asked me whether I ever had T.B. I said, ‘no”. “But”, the Doctor reacted, “your blood report indicates that sometime in the past, you have had T.B. Dr. Lal’s Path report can never be wrong”. At that point of time, the following words of Guruji resounded in my mind “your fever will go soon and you will never ever have T.B.
